NARSSA Code of Professional Conduct

The National Association of Registered Social Security Analysts (NARSSA) is committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism, ethics, and client care. This Code of Professional Conduct outlines the principles that guide the personal and professional behavior of Associate Members and Registered Members (RSSA®). All members agree to uphold these standards as a condition of membership and continued participation in NARSSA programs.

Honesty & Integrity

Members are expected to conduct themselves with honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all personal and professional activities. This includes communicating truthfully with clients, accurately representing qualifications and services, and avoiding misleading statements or practices. Members are expected to uphold the reputation and integrity of NARSSA and the RSSA® credential.

Client-First Duty & Independence

Members agree to act lawfully and in the best interests of their clients. When potential conflicts of interest arise, members are expected to disclose them appropriately and act with independence and objectivity. Where applicable, members agree to adhere to fiduciary principles, including those reflected in the U.S. Department of Labor Fiduciary Rule and related guidance.

Education & Professional Competence

Members commit to maintaining the knowledge and skills necessary to competently support clients on matters related to Social Security and its interaction with retirement income, Medicare, and related benefits. Members agree to:

Confidentiality & Data Security

Members are obligated to protect the privacy and confidentiality of client information. Unless required by law, members will not disclose confidential personal or financial information without client permission. Members are expected to maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect sensitive data, including Social Security numbers and dates of birth. In the event of an unauthorized data breach, consideration will be given to whether appropriate data security policies, procedures, and safeguards were in place and actively maintained.

Professional Accountability

Adherence to this Code is essential to maintaining the value and integrity of NARSSA membership and the RSSA® credential. Failure to comply with these standards may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of membership or credential status.

NARSSA periodically reviews and updates this Code to reflect evolving laws, regulations, and professional best practices.

Filing a Complaint Against an RSSA

The mission of NARSSA is to benefit the public by granting the RSSA designation and upholding it as the recognized standard for providing competent and ethical Social Security advisory services. As part of that mission, Associate and Registered Members agree to abide by the organization's Code of Professional Conduct.
If you believe that an RSSA has violated the Code of Professional Conduct and would like to report the alleged misconduct, you may submit a complaint to the NARSSA Board. Please carefully consider your complaint before filing, and be advised that it takes more than a mere disagreement with an RSSA or an unsubstantiated claim of misconduct to justify an investigation and potential follow-on disciplinary action. Thus, with any complaint against an RSSA, you must provide the Board with documents and other evidence to support your claim of unprofessional or unethical conduct.
Please understand that because NARSSA is strictly a standards-setting body for those professionals who have met its initial and ongoing certification requirements, jurisdiction only extends to the rights of professionals to use the RSSA acronym and the term Registered Social Security Analyst. NARSSA does not have the ability to help you obtain any financial relief. Please be aware that there may be other remedies available for you to pursue under state and federal laws and regulations with applicable regulatory bodies. NARSSA is unable to provide you with any legal advice, and it is your responsibility to pursue any such remedies.
Submit complaints by mail to ATTN: NARSSA Membership, 2001 Grove Street, Wantagh, NY 11793. Your complaint should include your full name, address, phone number, the RSSA's full name, company name, address, phone number and a summary of the complaint along with any supporting materials. NARSSA staff may contact you to request additional information if needed and may request an interview if necessary. We do NOT accept anonymous complaints.
